On Saturday last, I appeared at the Wheeling ArtsFest on stilts. It was my most extensive stilting gig to date and garnered quite a bit of attention. Maybe I'll have to have business cards made... Anyway, you can read more about the festival here.
Although I spent most of my time just wandering about, smiling and waving at people and having my picture taken, I also had the opportunity to meet some of the folks from the MITCH Collective, an Ohio-based organization (Martins Ferry) that, per the mission on their website, "provides an avenue for local residents to explore the arts by providing access to specialized equipment and facilitating interaction with guest artists and artists in residence through workshops in the historic home and around town."
On Saturday, that mission was embodied by silk screening demonstrations and a showing of their charming wares, both screen-printed and letter pressed.
I'm hoping to make it up for one of their Monday evening open houses before youth orchestra rehearsals begin and rob me of my Mondays.
In chatting with Josie from the MITCH Collective, I also learned about her Facebook page and blog called Places to Be in the OV, on which she maintains a constant stream of goings-on in the Upper Ohio Valley. It's definitely worth checking out, especially if you think there's nothing happening here.
Here are the nifty notecards/postcards I picked up at the MITCH Collective tent on Saturday:
